I realize that many candidates become frustrated with recruiters, who will not tell them the name of the company they are representing. Do you know why recruiters keep the name of their clients confidential? To prevent candidates from contacting their clients and cutting them out of the process, resulting in a loss of commissions. Most candidates are ethical and would not do this, but it only takes one candidate to cause a hard-working recruiter to lose their commission. (Most recruiters are 100% commission and rely on making placements to earn money.)
Last week we had a candidate who persisted in knowing our client's name. We made the mistake of giving her the name of our client. She went behind our backs and submitted herself directly to our client. Maybe the candidate felt like they could do better without our assistance ---whatever the reason it was not a very ethical choice. We're grateful to have great clients who know how hard we work to find candidates. Our HR contact realized what happened and promised us credit if they hired the candidate. They also asked the candidate to continue to work through us to follow their recruiting process.
If you are the hiring manager, what are your thoughts about this candidate? Were they too aggressive? That they are willing to win at all costs? That they don't care for others?
